Ciro Picariello is one of the masters of Fiano in Campania, known for producing whites of precision, minerality, and remarkable aging potential. Working organically in the high-altitude hills of Avellino, Picariello crafts Fiano that is both intensely aromatic and structurally driven—true to the volcanic, mountainous landscape of Irpinia. The 2023 Fiano di Avellino is a benchmark expression: tense, saline, and quietly powerful.
WINEMAKER: Ciro Picariello
FARMING: Practicing Organic
VARIETY: 100% Fiano
TERROIR: Sourced from estate vineyards in Summonte (northeast-facing, ~650 m) and Montefredane (southeast-facing, ~500 m). These cooler, high-elevation sites sit on clay, loam, and sandstone soils, producing Fiano with exceptional aromatics, acidity, and mineral drive.
VINIFICATION: Hand-harvested in late October for full physiological ripeness. Fermented slowly over 60 days with ambient yeasts to preserve purity and terroir expression.
AGING: Aged 10 months on the lees in stainless steel, adding texture and depth, followed by 6 months in bottle before release.
TASTING NOTES: The 2023 Fiano is vibrant yet graceful, with aromas of lemon oil, white peach, crushed herbs, and delicate smoke. The palate is layered and structured, showing salty minerality, citrus, orchard fruit, and subtle almond. Bright acidity and a long, flinty finish highlight the wine’s volcanic origin and high-elevation freshness.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with crudo, grilled octopus, shellfish, roast chicken, or dishes featuring citrus, herbs, and olive oil.
