Rémi Leroy Extra Brut, Côte des Bar, Champagne, France NV
- Winemaker: Rémi Leroy
- Farming: Organic
- Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay (Based on 2021 Vintage)
- Terroir: Located in Meurville, a small town in the abyss of the Aube, Champagne’s most southern and deeply rural region. The bedrock and topsoil in this area is identical to Chablis, with the hard Portlandian limestone overlaying the soft Kimmeridgian limestone marl. The vineyards also have a fair amount of clay, more so than most clay-rich sites in Chablis, which furthers the breadth and power of the wines.
- Vinification: The wines are crafted between a mix of stainless steel and as much as 25% old French oak barrels.
- Aging: 3 years on lees
Located in Meurville, a small town in the abyss of the Aube, Champagne’s most southern and deeply rural region. Before Rémi started his winery, the family sold off all their grapes to local negociants. Starting with one-third of his family’s nine hectares, he has steadily grown production to match the demand and will ultimately vinify all the family’s grapes instead of continuing to sell them to the large Champagne houses.
