Graziano Prà is a visionary Veneto producer who transformed his family’s long-held vineyards into one of Italy’s most respected terroir-driven estates. Farming organically from the outset and emphasizing elegance over sheer power, Prà crafts Amarone that balances richness with freshness and precision.
-
WINEMAKER: Graziano Prà.
-
FARMING: Organically farmed vineyards in Valpolicella since their acquisition.
-
VARIETY: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta.
-
TERROIR: Hillside sites in the Mezzane and Tregnago zones with calcareous soils and southeast exposure around 450 m elevation, yielding a refined balance of structure and freshness.
-
VINIFICATION: Produced using the traditional appassimento method, where harvested grapes are dried for months to concentrate sugars, tannins, and flavor before fermentation to dryness.
-
AGING: Matured in oak for at least two years—often longer—allowing tannins to integrate and complex notes of spice, leather, and dried fruit to emerge.
-
TASTING NOTES: Rich yet poised, with layers of dried cherry, plum, cocoa, and warm spice supported by fine tannins and balancing acidity that carries through a long, bittersweet finish.
-
FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with braised meats, game, aged cheeses, or contemplative sipping on its own.
-
SCORES: 90 Falstaff points (vintage 2017).
A restrained, distinctly dry Amarone of notable purity and complexity, the Morandina captures the elegance and longevity possible in Valpolicella’s finest hillside terroirs.
