From Our 2025 Bottle Cult Notes:
An ode to his wife and children—Arthur the Third, Shannon Staglin, and sweet Sicily—Artie Johnson’s Artishasic Winery is a tribute to family and a reflection of California, the place they call home (pronounced art-ee-shay-sic). I first met Artie and his family by the
round part of the counter at The Charter Oak— his son, Arthur III, with a chicken tender in one hand and a crayon in the other. It was a scene I came to expect whenever I crossed paths with this generous family.
While Arthur III held onto his two favorite things, so did Artie—a glass of wine in one hand, the other always in motion—calling over a friend, waving someone in, or gesturing for more glasses, because another bottle was already on the way. After many conversations and many corks pulled, I saw a family that truly understood the wine industry—and, more importantly, the people in it. Their wines reflect that same spirit: approachable, generous, and full of life, just like the people who make and inspire them.
While Artie’s love for all different kinds of wine is well known, he’s currently expanding California's palate for Rhône varieties—which brings us to this 2021 Grenache & Carignan blend. Who doesn’t love old-vine Carignan? With 80-100 years of growth, these deeply rooted vines produce lower yields but more concentrated, complex fruit, giving the wine its signature depth and structure. The Grenache adds a candied strawberry brightness, with smooth tannins that make the wine almost too easy to drink.
Wondering about the artwork on the label? You’ll likely find the artists right at home, eating chicken tenders at the dinner table with their parents. Because, just like the wines, every detail of Le Artishasic is rooted in family, creativity, and a love for bringing people
together over a glass of wine. —Kaylee Daly, DECANTnapa
