Maison Angelot is a family estate in Bugey, run by brothers Philippe and Éric Angelot, spanning around 26 ha (or roughly 29 ha across ~20 parcels). They farm under HVE (High Environmental Value) certification, emphasizing biodiversity and sustainable practices, and are registered as Independent Winegrowers.

  • WINEMAKER: Philippe Angelot / Éric Angelot

  • FARMING: Sustainable: HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) / Independent Winegrower (sustainable, focused on biodiversity)

  • VARIETY: 100% Gamay (from some of the estate’s oldest vines, approximately 25–30 years old)

  • TERROIR: Bugey AOC in the Savoie region, with vineyards on limestone and morainic soils, hillside and valley-floor parcels averaging roughly 55 hl/ha yields for Gamay; climate influenced by both continental and mountainous elements

  • VINIFICATION: Approximately 80% destemmed fruit; carbonic maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel (sometimes fiberglass) tanks for about 6 days, with twice-daily punchdowns; light chaptalization up to ~1% used if necessary

  • AGING: Aged in stainless steel and cement-lined tanks—neutral vessels preserve vibrancy and freshness

  • TASTING NOTES: Juicy and approachable; aromas and flavors of spicy red fruits (strawberries, raspberries, hint of hibiscus and chalk) with low tannin, vibrant acidity, and a light, “gulpable” texture that makes it fun and food-friendly

  • FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal for casual, comfort-style dishes—charcuterie, raclette, simple pasta, or picnic fare; delicious when served slightly chilled
