Tinpot Hut is a boutique winery founded by winemaker Fiona Turner and her husband, viticulturist Hamish, in the early 2000s. Their Blind River vineyard, known as their "Home Block," is situated in the Awatere Valley sub-region of Marlborough, New Zealand. The name "Tinpot Hut" pays homage to a historic mustering hut in the remote hills between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. The winery focuses on producing expressive, small-lot wines that capture the unique character of Marlborough's cool-climate terroir.

  • WINEMAKER: Fiona Turner

  • FARMING: Sustainable practices; hand-harvested fruit from low-yielding vines

  • VARIETY: 100% Pinot Noir

  • TERROIR: Grapes sourced from estate vineyards in Blind River, Awatere Valley; alluvial soils with clay and sand; cool maritime climate with significant diurnal temperature variation

  • VINIFICATION: Fermented with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks; gentle extraction methods to preserve delicate aromatics

  • AGING: Matured in French oak barrels (approximately 30% new) for 9–12 months

  • TASTING NOTES: Bright ruby color; aromas of ripe red cherry, blackberry, and plum, with hints of redcurrant, thyme, and floral notes; palate is medium-bodied with soft, silky tannins and well-balanced acidity, leading to a lingering finish

  • FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with lamb, duck, venison dishes, or firm cheeses
