Founded in 1984 by Matilde Poggi in Cavaion Veronese, Le Fraghe is a family-run estate nestled between Lake Garda and Valpolicella. Embracing organic viticulture since 2009, the winery is dedicated to producing wines that authentically express the terroir of the Bardolino region. Matilde Poggi, a prominent figure in Italian winemaking, also serves as the president of the Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti (FIVI), championing the cause of independent winegrowers.

  • WINEMAKER: Matilde Poggi

  • FARMING: Certified Organic

  • VARIETY: 100% Garganega

  • TERROIR: Vineyards located in the village of Camporengo within the commune of Cavaion Veronese, Veneto. The 19-year-old vines are south-facing at an elevation of 190 meters, planted on glacial schist soils that contribute to the wine's minerality.

  • VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed without de-stemming. Only 55% free-run must is used, which undergoes fermentation at 17°C in stainless steel tanks. The wine rests on fine lees in 50 hL stainless steel tanks until bottling in the following spring.

  • AGING: Aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for approximately six months to enhance texture and complexity.

  • TASTING NOTES: Pale straw yellow in color, the wine offers an appealing bouquet of acacia and mimosa flowers, complemented by rich notes of peach and apple. Subtle nuances of green pepper add complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied with excellent progression and overall harmony, culminating in a finish that elegantly echoes the aromas.

  • FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with first courses featuring seasonal vegetables, as well as fresh or saltwater fish and shellfish.

  • SCORES: 2 Glasses – Gambero Rosso
