Winemaker: Matt Taylor
- Farming: Sustainably farmed mountain vineyard
- Variety: 88% Zinfandel, 12% Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
-
Terroir: Volcanic “tufa” soils on the extreme slopes of Howell Mountain, Napa Valley. The Ink Grade vineyard, located in the northeastern corner of the Howell Mountain AVA, is renowned for its steep terraces and volcanic tufa soils. The combination of mountain elevation and rocky soil creates intense fruit that embodies the ruggedness of the site. The wine reflects a reverence for its place of origin, offering a pure expression of mountain Zinfandel that is as captivating as it is structured.
- Vinification: Aged in 100% French oak (35% new, 65% used)
- Aging: Barrel-aged for 35 months before bottling
- Tasting Note: Andosol showcases the intensity and depth that comes from the rugged Ink Grade Estate. This mountain Zinfandel opens with bold aromas of blackberries, ripe plums, and dark cherries, layered with hints of bramble, spice, and a touch of smoked cedar. The palate is rich and concentrated, delivering a seamless integration of fruit and tannin, with a structure that promises further complexity over time. The Cabernet Sauvignon adds backbone, with firm tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish.
- Pairing Suggestions: Enjoy this bold Zinfandel with grilled lamb chops, slow-cooked short ribs, or earthy mushroom risotto. Its depth and intensity also make it a great companion for aged cheeses and barbecue dishes.
