Cieck Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante, San Giorgio, Piedmont, Italy 2020
Founded in 1985, Cieck is overseen by Remo Falconieri, who humbly accepts his given title as the King of Sparkling Erbaluce (an indigenous white grape variety). This Erbaluce is an essential expression of the freshness and minerality that characterize the wines of the Canavese area.
- Winemaker: Remo Falconieri
- Farming: Practicing Organic
- Variety: 100% Erbaluce
- Terroir: Up to 320m in Elevation in pergola-trained vines planted predominantly in the early 1970s as well as the early 1980s. Moraine-gravel soils rich in fossils.
- Vinification: The grapes selected for this wine are gently pressed whole-cluster in order to preserve their ripe-fruit notes. The stems, skins, and seeds are removed immediately after pressing. During fermentation, the temperature is kept low to capture the singular aromatics of Erbaluce. The wine is then left to age in contact with the fine lees for at least two months in stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation does not take place.
- Aging: Stainless steel, traditionally bottled the following spring after harvest.
- Tasting Note: Fresh and vibrant, this wine leaps from the glass with ripe nectarine, green apple, beeswax, mint, and acacia flower. A youthful expression with enviable acidity. Notes of stone fruit and citrus give way to a crisp finish.
