Anthony Thévenet, a rising star in Beaujolais, is dedicated to producing wines that honor traditional methods while embracing a natural approach. After gaining experience with esteemed producers like Georges Descombes and Jean Foillard, he established his own domaine, focusing on organic practices and minimal intervention to craft authentic expressions of the region's terroir.
- WINEMAKER: Anthony Thévenet
- FARMING: Practicing organic viticulture; not certified
- VARIETY: 100% Gamay
- TERROIR: Sourced from old vines in Chénas, the smallest of the ten Beaujolais crus. The vineyards are situated on gentle slopes with deep pink granite sand and gravel soils, contributing to the wine's aromatic lift and mineral intensity.
- VINIFICATION: Hand-harvested grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration without added sulfur, utilizing native yeasts. Fermentation lasts 8-10 days with minimal intervention, allowing for natural malolactic fermentation during primary fermentation.
- AGING: Aged in large, older 600-liter barrels to preserve purity and enhance complexity without imparting strong oak flavors.
- TASTING NOTES: This Chénas offers aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with flavors of red berries, blueberry, and blackcurrant, complemented by hints of smoke and balsamic. The wine exhibits smooth tannins and vibrant acidity, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs well with veal, pork, poultry, pasta, and cured meats. Its versatility makes it suitable for a variety of dishes, from casual fare to more refined cuisine.
