Benchmark style for the ageability and the premium quality Beaujolais can reach. Jean Foillard is one of the most iconic producers in Morgon, crafting exceptional wines from the famed Côte du Py vineyard. This particular wine from the 2021 vintage offers a classic expression of Gamay, with incredible depth and minerality, sourced from volcanic soils.
- Winemaker: Jean and Agnes Foillard took over his father’s Domaine in 1980 and looked to pull greatness from his terroir that was often ignored.
- Terroir: Most of his wines come from 8.6ha of parcels on Beaujolais’ most famous vineyard site, Côte du Py, which is granite and schist soils on an alluvial fan, at the highest point above the town of Villié-Morgon
- Farming: Organically farmed old vines (up to 90 years old) and late in season hand harvesting, rigorously sorted for only the healthiest grapes, no filtration.
- Vinification: Traditional whole-cluster fermentation lasts from 3-4 weeks,
- Aging: 6-9 months in used oak barrels. Bottled unfiltered with no added SO2 during vinification
- Tasting Note: Medium-bodied, with fresh red fruit aromas like raspberry and cherry, alongside earthy, smoky notes. The palate shows silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a lingering mineral finish
