Kuentz-Bas Pinot Gris 'Trois Châteaux', Alsace, France 2022
Established in 1795, Domaine Kuentz-Bas is a historic estate located in the picturesque village of Husseren-les-Châteaux in Alsace. Under the stewardship of Jean-Baptiste Adam since 2004, the domaine has embraced biodynamic farming practices, producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
- WINEMAKER: Jean-Baptiste Adam
- FARMING: Certified Biodynamic; committed to sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention.
- VARIETY: 100% Pinot Gris
- TERROIR: Vineyards situated on clay and limestone soils, benefiting from excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure, contributing to the wine's complexity and minerality.
- VINIFICATION: Hand-harvested grapes; fermentation with indigenous yeasts in traditional large oak foudres, preserving the purity and expression of the fruit.
- AGING: Aged on fine lees in century-old oak foudres for several months, enhancing texture and depth.
- TASTING NOTES: This Pinot Gris offers a harmonious balance of ripe pear, peach, and apricot aromas, complemented by subtle notes of honey and flint. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a rich, slightly off-dry character, showcasing flavors of stone fruits and a touch of minerality, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: An excellent companion to dishes like pork tenderloin, spicy Asian cuisine, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses.
