Winemaker: Emmerich Knoll
Varietal: Grüner Veltliner
Farming: Sustainable
Terroir: The 'Ried Kreutles' vineyard is located on the steep terraces of the Wachau, overlooking the Danube River. The soil is a combination of primary rock and loess, providing excellent drainage and a unique terroir that imparts minerality and freshness to the wine. This site enjoys a microclimate that promotes ideal ripening conditions for Grüner Veltliner.
Vinification:
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wine is left on its fine lees for several months to develop complexity and texture, resulting in a balanced, expressive style.
Aging:
Aged in large neutral oak casks for 12 months, with extended lees contact for added richness and depth.
Tasting Notes:
The 'Ried Kreutles' Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 2019 presents a complex nose of ripe stone fruit, white pepper, and a subtle hint of herbs. The palate is rich and layered, with bright citrus, green apple, and a characteristic minerality that defines the Wachau region. Crisp acidity provides a vibrant backbone, while the finish is long and elegantly persistent, with a touch of spice.
